TEC was founded in 2015 with a mission is to bring transparency, efficiency, and collaboration to K-12 schools engaged in evaluating and purchasing edtech products and services. To date, TEC has convened more than 100 districts, representing approximately 5.5 million K-12 students, to share data and has demonstrated that through transparency and collaboration there is opportunity for rapid acceleration of market efficiency.

Transparency

Can we give students the most effective technology?

School districts have been making purchasing decisions without reliable information about whether those products lead to desired educational outcomes. Products are often misused or underused, breaking the feedback loop necessary for improvements.

Efficiency

Can we break down barriers in the procurement process?

Archaic procurement policies routinely eliminate cutting-edge products simply because they are marketed by companies unfamiliar with school buying procedures.

Collaboration

Can schools learn from the experience of their peers?

For years, school districts have been unable to benefit from the buying experiences of their peers; this includes discounts negotiated, implementation issues encountered, and services deficiencies identified. As a result, some districts get great deals while others don’t do as well - even when they are buying the same product and similar quantities.
